Or 'I don't even have the patience to read this entire post, how did you have the patience to change every single roster?' The process was pretty straight forward.
I found an excel sheet online from EA Sports with the ratings of every single player in 25 (all 2,244, to be exact). Then, I would edit one team at a time, and one position at a time. I'd trade players that aren't in the league anymore with players on those 'old time' teams that nobody ever uses, and I matched up the ages and looks of the players I wanted.For example, let's look at the Colts QB's.
Madden 08 says the Colts have Peyton Manning, Jim Sorgi, and John Navarre at QB. So, I trade Manning to his current team, Denver, for a backup QB, say, Patrick Ramsey. Then, I use trusty old Wikipedia to make sure these guys aren't in the league anymore. After I make sure, I'd trade them to the old timers. So, I'd trade Jim Sorgi to an old team for a 24 year old quarterback who I'll turn into Andrew Luck, and so on.until I've done this for all 21 positions on all 32 teams.
Once I've traded for old timers, I can pretty much edit anything about them: name, height, weight, stats, everything except age and skin color. Once I got the hang of it, it took me about an hour to update one team's roster.AND.THAT WORKS?Sure it does! I tried to make each roster as accurate as possible. I matched up each player's age, height, weight, and skills to match their real life counterparts. The only drawback to my trading method is that guys who already were in the league at the time of Madden 08 are now 6 years younger, because I cannot change their age. So, Adrian Peterson and Calvin Johnson are rookies again, with an overall rating of 99. Good luck with that, NFL.PROBLEMSSome weird things came up when trying to edit the roster.
First of all, not very many teams use a fullback anymore, but Madden still requires every team to have one. In some cases, I'd have to put a guy there who either isn't on the team anymore, or who is actually a running back or tight end or something. And along those lines, tight ends and fullbacks aren't graded as harshly in 08. Guys who had around an 80 OVR rating in Madden 25 would turn up as 99 OVR once I put them on my Madden 08, so I had to scale back their stats a little bit.Also, the players and ratings I downloaded from EA Sports were current as of the preseason, and some rosters have different since then.
Guys have changed teams, like Josh Freeman and Trent Richardson. In these cases, I left the teams as they were before the season started, and see what the CPU has in store for those guys.OK, COOL. NOW WHAT?Well, now I gotta play! I'm going to see if my 49ers will win Super Bowl XLII in February of 2008.
