Metroid II notoriously does not have a map, and with the Gameboy’s limitations the individual rooms, corridors, and shafts within each individual region can look very, very similar. Plus the Spiderball is literally the second upgrade you find, meaning for 90% of the game you have walls and ceilings to search and keep track of as well.
